2015 has marked the first year that Bethlehem House, as a community services organisation was invited by the University of Tasmania to host a student social worker for their field education placement.

This comprised of 500 hours of work with Bethlehem House under the supervision of Case Worker staff. We have had the pleasure of hosting Thomas Kearney-Elkan who has been a great support for the residents of the service and helped to facilitate some great external projects to engage and skill our clients.

One initiative put forward by Tom was engaging the clients in the restoration of a wooden boat at Franklin, 45km from Hobart on the western side of the Huon River.

There has been a great deal of interest in the project with the Huon Valley News publishing an article on it in their September 2015 edition. You can read about this initiative in Tom’s Report.
